(CNN) – The latest version of the Bible of psychiatry and came out. The fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders was launched last weekend at the annual meeting of the American Psychiatric Association (APA), for its acronym in English. >>>
The American Psychiatric Association (APA) announced that their governing body has voted to replace Gender Identity Disorder (GID) with Gender Dysphoria (GD). It’s a milestone for transgender and transsexual people, as well as for those who identify as both transgender and transsexual; the decision has medical, political and psychiatric implications.
The American Psychiatric Association board of trustees approved the latest proposed revisions to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, what will now be known as the DSM-V. This marks a historic milestone for people who are transgender and gender non-conforming, as their identities are no longer classified as a mental disorder. Homosexuality was similarly declassified as a mental disorder in 1973.
The Organisation of Intersex International (OII) Australia has today released a submission to the American Psychiatric Association (APA) in response to a draft version of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th edition. >>>
