In view of the coming ILGA Conference in Stockholm (December 12-16) and following a recommendation by the ILGA Conference in São Paulo in December 2010, the ILGA Board launches this consultation with the whole of the membership in relation to the current regional structure of ILGA. The participation in it by as many members as possible will help us all in shaping together the future of one important aspect of our organizational structure.
Why a consultation?
At the 2010 Conference in São Paulo the ILGA Board proposed a reform of the current regional structure, in the attempt to accommodate concerns and wishes expressed by several members. According to the Board’s proposal, the overall number of ILGA Regions would not have changed, but the relative size of the regions compared to the others would have. After a debate at the 2010 Conference, the Board withdrew the proposal and followed a recommendation by the conference, i.e. “to initiate a broad consultation where the member organizations and regional boards get the opportunity to raise their concerns and proposals for changes in the regional structure”.

What will be the follow up to this consultation?
Once all replies have been collected and analyzed, the Board – following the mandate given by the 2010 Conference – will produce “a report and a new proposal for changes in the regional structure” for the next world conference. The report will highlight any implications for organizational structures including board structures and other relevant issues.
The survey will only take 10 minutes.
