GayJapanNews, ILGA’s member in Japan is orgasizing its fund-raising event, Gay Ski Weekend in Japan in February 2011.

GayJapanNews which became ILGA member in September 2007 was established in 2005 as free online LGBT news and information source in Japanese to empower Japanese LGBT individuals by providing them with the information on the struggles and successes of LGBT people from all over the world and to create visibility for LGBT issues and individuals in society while the group has done advocacy work at both national and international levels at the same time.

Gay Ski Weekend is intended to raise funds for ILGA and also for GayJapanNews as the group is 100% volunteer run and organised. In addition to the website maintenance, a portion of the funds raised will go to conducting projects. One of the projects the group is planning to conduct is a research project on violence against women, bisexual women and transgender people on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity, first of its kind in Japan. The project’s coordinator and co-director of the group, Azusa Yamashita says "we plan to use some portion of the money we’ll raise for this important project."
