Filipino film ‘Bwakaw’ to be featured at LGBT festival in San Francisco

“Bwakaw” is one of the Asian films participating in Frameline37, or the San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival. This year’s internationally renowned showcase for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) cinema runs June 20 to 30, with screenings at the historic Castro Theatre (429 Castro Street), Roxie Theater (3117 16th Street), the Victoria Theatre (2961 16th Street), and in Berkeley at Rialto Cinemas Elmwood (2966 College Avenue).

With an expected attendance of 60,000, the 11 days of Frameline37 will bring together film lovers, media artists, and LGBTQ communities from the Bay Area and all across the globe to behold the best in queer cinema from this year’s record number of more than 700 film submissions.

More than 30 countries will be represented, including the Philippines, Poland, Ireland, South Korea, Thailand, Argentina, Brazil, and Australia. Tickets for Frameline37 will be on sale through to members on Friday, May 24th and to the general public on Friday, May 31st.

Cinemalaya describes ‘Bwakaw’ as a drama-comedy about growing old alone.
