Pro LGBT - Small Steps with big love Pro LGBT started as a grassroots organization. Our first action was drawing special graffiti’s in main streets of Tirana with the script: “I am a boy; I am in love with a boy”, “I am a girl; I am in love with a girl” - We filmed the action while writing it and then three months after to document what happened with the graffiti’s: they were all deleted One year ago Pro LGBT produced the first short documentary portraying two gay couples in Albania. The film “Hidden Among You” was screened for the first time at Top Channel Television, the most viewed media in Albania. Later on, this September the film won the Special prize at the Second Edition of Balkan Film and Food Festival. This is an international well known film and culinary festival. The film was screened also at the Theater “Petro Marko” of Vlora, where we organized an open discussion with around 200 highs schools students, on LGBT and discrimination. My Story On June 2012 we launched the first human rights news portal that is becoming a source for the mainstream media, while we signed an agreement with the office of Ombudsman in order to share information and collaborate. We have signed an agreement also with ARCIGAY Pescara, a very active branch of the biggest LGBT organization in Europe. “Pro LGBT” is a member of Regional Network from its creation. This is a strong network with activists and NGOs from all the countries of Balkan, from Caucasia and Middle East, while we are in the process of becoming a member of ILGA-Europe. The first Gay Ride “Pro LGBT” was one of the co-organizers of the events in the framework of IDAHO 2012 in Albania. Together with the Alliance Against Discrimination we organized the first Gay Ride in Albania; we were also part of the organization of the first exhibition with some tens of portraits of gays, lesbians and transgender people in Albania called “Kukafshehti”. I remember Our next project is going to be focused on a large survey that we are currently doing at the State Archives of Tirana. We are searching for every possible document related to LGBT not to victimize our community but to see the past with courage and to show our story as it was, the story that has been either told wrong, or never told.
