AlQaws works collaboratively as a diverse group of individuals to awaken and transform Palestinian society’s perspectives on gender and sexual diversity, and to struggle for broad social justice. We prioritize increasing opportunities for support, leadership, community building, and activism for LGBT and queer identified members, but the “alQaws” network includes allied members and organizations whose diversity reflects the reality that gender and sexuality cut across all issues relevant to social, cultural and political life. With a shared belief that a feminist-minded sexual liberation is vital for the broader liberation of Palestinian society from occupation, dispersal, and dispossession, our members come from diverse economic, ethnic, citizenship status, religious, educational, cultural and political backgrounds, as well as different locations and degrees of social, geographic, and bodily mobility. Together, we envision a Palestinian society that embraces a non-hierarchical outlook on sexual and gender diversity and we see ourselves as part of a wider movement to ignite our society’s struggle toward external and internal transformation, and toward a celebration of diversity in all its forms.
