Chinese gay couples wish everyone a Merry Kissmas

Gay couples took the center stage at a Shanghai shopping mall to celebrate Christmas à la the British - kissing under the mistletoe. At the city’s fashionable pedestrian shopping and dining area Xintiandi, over a dozen pair of gay and lesbian lovers braved the chilling weather to kiss under a giant Christmas Tree Saturday night.\n

While organizers were originally aiming for 100 couples, those who turned up managed to win the cheers of many fellow youngsters each time the tree turned into a sea of red lights.

‘I think it’s good we can gather together like this,’ said 22-year-old Otto Zhu, reports the Wall Street Journal, ‘It makes us feel we have the power to do whatever we want.’

Indeed, Zhu and his folks were empowering not only the LGBTI, but also people with cleft palates, for each lip lock generated a 100 yuan (US$16.5, €12) for Smile Angel Foundation, co-founded by local gay icon Faye Wong, whose younger daughter was born with the deformity.
