China Gay App Gets Big Boost

China based Blued, a Chinese language Grindr-style gay chat and hook-up app, has received close to US$1.6 million in funding from local unnamed investors to help it expand its technology and its staffing levels, Chinese tech blog 36Kr says.

Blued founder Gang Le says China has at least 13 million gay people, meaning the app has the potential for strong growth. The app has knoeck Grindr and other gay apps off the wishlist of many gay Chinese smartphone users.

Gang Le also reports total user numbers for Blued to be in the region of 3 million, up from 2 million last year, with a target of 10 million users.
