ILGA, along with ARC International hosted “Voices of human rights defenders from around the world on sexual orientation and gender identity,” a side event at the 23rd session of the UN Human Rights Council. This event was co-sponsored by the missions of Brazil, France, Norway, Poland, and South Africa. It was a well attended event, drawing in States, NGOs, and UN representatives

From ARC International: “The event featured the première screening of ARC’s 30 minute video documentary filmed at the recent SOGI regional seminars and in countries around the world to gather testimonies and perspectives of human rights defenders based on their experiences and their expectations for next steps related to human rights, sexual orientation and gender identity at the UN.”

Only half of the documentary was able to be shown at the time. The whole film will be shown at a similar side event in September. For the mean time, the documentary is available online to use in further activism.
