Rainbow Identity Association (RIA) is delighted to invite you to take part in an important and historic event in the country; Trans & Intersex Pride 2012. The theme for this event is “LIVE & LET LIVE” and it will be held on November 24, 2012 on which
The Pride March is set to depart from Game City starting at 10h00 towards GSS Grounds. The day’s events will take place at GSS Grounds (still a proposed venue & still to be confirmed).
This will be the inaugural Trans & Intersex Pride in Botswana ever; we aim to create a political and social space for transgender and intersex individuals by being visible and amplifying their voices. Moreover, we wish to engage various LGBTI individuals/organizations and human rights/community organisations in this event. The pride is aimed at confronting and raising awareness about Trans phobia and discrimination experienced by transgender and intersex people in Botswana.
RIA is almost two years in its existence, we have worked to develop and implement Trans and Intersex Pride with the following objectives:
· To raise awareness on rights of transgender and intersex people
· To create relations with communities that we live in
· To develop partnerships with stakeholders in Botswana for transgender and intersex people
· To claim our spaces as transgender and intersex people living in these communities.
We hope that by collaborating with such a like-minded organizations, we will be able to achieve our shared goals of raising awareness and advocating for transgender and intersex human rights, amongst others.
We plead that individuals and organisations mobilize participation within the area of your work interest; RIA would appreciate it if your organization representative could be one of the speakers to give messages of support and generate more visibility for your organization by displaying its banner or any other IEC material.
Please indicate your interest in participating in this event by email to email@example.com by November 2nd 2012.
