Director Of Development Position - International Gay And Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC)

IGLHRC currently seeks a Director of Development. The Director of Development possesses the strategic vision, practical skills, and overall expertise to lead IGLHRC’s fundraising initiatives. Application Deadline : Friday, February 15, 2013.

Founded IN 1990 and guided by the values of collaboration, depth and feminism, the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC) is a $3 million/year organization that strives to help lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people to live safer, healthier, and more empowered lives worldwide.

IGLHRC currently seeks a Director of Development.

The Director of Development possesses the strategic vision, practical skills, and overall expertise to lead IGLHRC’s fundraising initiatives. IGLHRC receives support from a combination of sources, however the majority of its revenue currently stems from institutional donors. The Director of Development reports directly to the Executive Director (ED) and works closely with senior staff and the Board of Directors as the catalyst for IGLHRC achieving its financial goals.

The position is based in New York City but may involve some travel.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the Grants Officer, Development Assistant and consultants;
  • Represents Development staff and their needs within IGLHRC, especially by working closely with Program, Finance and Communications;
  • Conceptualizes, coordinates, monitors and evaluates IGLHRC’s annual resource development strategic plan, including by retaining, upgrading, and cultivating donors at all levels and adjusting strategies as needed;
  • Manages institutional giving and relationships with institutional funders;
  • Works with Program staff on proposal design, proposal writing, budgets, monitoring and evaluation, and reporting;
  • Coordinates corporate giving and relationships with corporate funders;
  • Oversees and implements major donor program, including prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship;
  • Supervises and implements donor cultivation events and evaluates endorsed events opportunities;
  • Plans and oversees direct mail program and consultants;
  • Conducts prospect research and ensures donor information storage;
  • Ensures the integrity of the fundraising database, online giving, gift processing, recording and acknowledgement;
  • Develops creative strategies for expanding the funding base through technology and web visibility;
  • Works with ED and the Board Development Committee to ensure board members succeed in their fundraising responsibilities;
  • Serves as an integral part of the management team by working with the ED, Program Director and Communications Director to ensure all work is coordinated, strategic and meets donor communication goals;
  • Manages the organization’s state registration filings; and
  • Coordinates the development of the department’s operational budget and oversees expenditures within budget.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in multifaceted development work;
  • Experience managing, developing and coordinating strategic and successful fundraising efforts;
  • Demonstrated success in major gift cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, direct response, foundation, government and corporate funding;
  • Experience managing staff and directing day-to-day operations;
  • Experience developing positive working relationships with colleagues, Board members and donors;
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and managing budgets;
  • Knowledgeable in the most up-to-date donor tracking systems;
  • An effective communicator who is articulate and persuasive in written and verbal communications, including in crafting proposals and donor correspondence as well as presenting to a variety of audiences; and
  • Dedication to LGBT human rights globally.
