The police will move in to nab the transsexual-bashing gang once specific information on the suspects have been established, says Pahang CID chief Senior Asst Comm T. Narenasegaran.
He said the police would investigate all the reports lodged and advised transsexuals who had been assaulted to come forward and assist the authorities.
Two transsexuals were attacked by a group of men early on Wednesday morning while another was slashed across his neck last year.
They claimed that other transsexuals in town had also been targeted by the so-called “anti-mak nyah gang” (anti-transsexual gang).
Kuantan CID chief Deputy Supt Kamaruzzaman Jaafar had said the reported cases would be investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting.
SAC Narenasegaran also said transsexuals would be given protection like any other Malaysian.
“To say that transsexuals have less rights is unacceptable. They did not ask to be born like that,” he said.
He added that those who disagreed with the transsexuals’ lifestyle should lodge an official complaint instead of engaging in hate crimes.
However, SAC Narenasegaran said this did not mean that he was encouraging the transsexuals to solicit sex.
